Designing and deploying cost-effective infrastructure for demanding mission critical applications represents a big challenge for most companies. Is it possible to reduce cost without sacrificing infrastructure resilience and degrading service quality? Is virtualised Linux fit for purpose to comply with highest requirements? Bombardier has managed to redefine its SAP infrastructure by introducing a fully supported solution which takes SUSE Linux as a core component. Around it other elements such as hardware, virtualisation software, open source monitoring system were chosen with cost awareness and value in mind. This solution allowed Bombardier to enable an efficient platform that would be suitable for replacing its legacy UNIX systems.
In this session we would like to share Bombardier's key design elements and migration experiences. Focus will be set on standardization, cost-effectiveness and platform availability. We will also emphasize on a smart way to define a disaster recovery strategy and patch management.
